Detroit Diesel Engine 18/11/2008

The Detroit Diesel DD15 took nearly five years to develop and cost $1.5 billion to do so. The Detroit Diesel engine, was unveiled Oct. 19 2007 at the companys Redford, Michigan plant. The six-cylinder DD15 diesel engine uses 14.8 liters and incorporates the new Amplified Common Rail System (ACRS) and the innovated turbo compounding technology. The engine is actually the first one in a series from Detroit Diesel that will range three categories, 12.8 liters, 14.8 liters and 15.6 liters. The next model will be seen shortly, due to released in the second quarter of 2008, the next Detroit Diesel engine in the new family will be the DD15 Freightliner Cascadia. The next will be the Frieghtliner Century S/T and Columbia models as well as the Sterling Set-Back L-Line and A-Line. The DD15 looks wet to be part of the new heavy-duty engine platform manufactured by the Daimler Trucks in Germany, Japan and the US. Daimler is set to use all new series in all its heavy-duty models around the world. The Detroit Diesel engine will be available from 455 hp to 560 hp and 1,550 lb-ft to 1,850 lb-ft of torque. Chris Patterson President and chief executive officer of Freighliner LLC which will soon be renamed Daimler Trucks North America LLC, said, The DD15 is a best-in-class engine that embodies what the Detroit Diesel engine brand is all about: performance and efficiency. The DD15 will meet the 2010 emissions standard with the addition of a downstream selective catalytic reduction device. Detroit Diesel program director for the DD15 Jim Gray said, Instead of revamping one of our current engines to comply with EPA standards, we designed a brand-new platform that takes all of the emissions requirements into account.
