Cummins Diesel Engine 21/02/2008 Cummins diesel engine manufacturer has announced that they have been certified as meeting the 2008 California Air Resources Board (CARB) idle reduction regulation. Cummins has released its two new ComfortGuard APU solutions to meet the 2008 CARB reduction regulations which went into effect on January 1, 2008. The regulation was set to establish more stringent standards that will further reduce emissions by limiting the idling of new and in-use diesel engine trucks. Other requirements by the new CARB regulation also require Auxiliary Power Units (APU) similar to Cummins ComfortGuard to be fitted with exhaust aftertreatment. Cummins diesel engines have two options by Cummins ComfortGuard to meet these new emissions regulations. The first option for Cummins diesel engines is a stand-alone particulate filter on the ComfortGuard APU engine or a Cummins engine installation kit to route the ComfortGuard diesel exhaust gas into the Cummins Particulate Filter. Shawn Wasson, APU business leader for Cummins Inc. said, Cummins ComfortGuard APUs offer the best solutions for a vast majority of diesel trucks on the road, Wasson said, These new 2008 CARB certified APUs will give drivers cost-effective options to idling when necessary, with increased benefit to the environment. The Cummins diesel engine will be fitted with the ComfortGuard APUs that feature a two-cylinder low-emissions diesel engine and either a regenerative DPF, or an other option is the exhaust adapter kit for use with 2007 Cummins ISX engines. Cummins say the ComfortGuard APU could pay for itself in 18 months or less with diesel fuel reduction. The system produces 4,000 watts at 120 volts, 60 Hz AC and has great voltage. It also produces 40 amps at 12 volts DC enough for charging trucks batteries and powering lights and fans. |
