The Detroit Diesel DD15 took nearly five years to develop and cost $1.5 billion to do so. The Detroit Diesel engine, was unveiled Oct. 19 2007 at the companys Redford, Michigan plant. The six-cylinder DD15 diesel engine uses 14.8 liters and incorporates the new Amplified Common Rail System (ACRS) and the innovated turbo compounding technology. At the ConExpo 2008 in Las Vegas, Cummins Inc. announced that the Heavy-Duty QSX engine will be available with a fully integrated air intake to exhaust aftertreatment system. This new air intake and exhaust aftertreatment system will be able to meet US EPA Tier 4 Interim and European Stage IIIB off-highway emissions regulations to be upheld in January 2011. Cummins diesel engine manufacturer has announced that they have been certified as meeting the 2008 California Air Resources Board (CARB) idle reduction regulation. Cummins has released its two new ComfortGuard APU solutions to meet the 2008 CARB reduction regulations which went into effect on January 1, 2008.
